Imprecise note taking and fading memory mean that details
are rather sketchy, but it seems likely that it was on 24th April
1992 that we joined the Welsh Marches Express at Crewe for a trip to Hereford.
A4 Class No. 60009 Union of South Africa was dressed up as No.
60027 Merlin and the other engine employed was Coronation Pacific No. 46229
Duchess of Hamilton.
My photos show both locomotives at Crewe as well as the
Stanier 4-6-2 drawing into Hereford prior to the return journey.
