In September 2013, Mallard returned to Grantham for a celebratory
weekend, close to that stretch of the East Coast Main Line south of the
town where she had broken the steam speed record 75 years earlier.
These pictures were taken at Newark Northgate station as the
formation, which also included Deltic No. 55019 Royal Highland Fusilier,
travelled south from York behind Class 56 No. 56311. The Deltics had taken over
main line express duties from the A4s in the early 1960s.
